Kathy Lassche

Kathy received her Bachelor of Musical Arts (Music Education) degree from the University of Western Ontario where she studied voice with Mary-Ellen Gustafson and music education with Dr. Amanda Montgomery. In 1994 she moved to Duncan BC and established Mulberry Lane Music Studio and taught private piano and voice lessons. In 1997, Kathy expanded her studio to include Kindermusik classes. The studio grew rapidly and by 2004 she was teaching over 100 students in private and group music lessons. In the fall of 2004, the studio once again expanded and it grew into a Music School with staff up to 10 teachers offering violin, drums, guitar, musical theatre, and children’s classes. Five theatrical productions were staged at the Cowichan Theatre during this time: Dear Edwina, Alice in Wonderland, Annie, The Elves and the Shoemaker, and Seussical in addition to several summer theatre productions. Mulberry Lane Music Studio received several Champion for Children awards during this time and was recognized as a leader for music education in the Cowichan Valley.

Kathy also teaches music classes for the BC Strong Start program and in local preschools. She has presented seminars for the Clements Centre, Cowichan Valley School District, the Health Centre through the Margaret Moss clinic, Growing Together Learning Centre and parent groups. Kathy has worked for Artists in the Schools in Nanaimo and Duncan teaching creative movement classes.

Kathy’s private music students have received awards in the Cowichan Music Festival and have gone on to the BC Provincial level. Her students have been accepted into the Canadian College of Performing Arts and Capilano College for Performing Arts as well as into productions at the Chemainus Theatre. Kathy currently maintains a private music studio in her home where she teaches piano and voice under the name Mulberry Lane Music Studio. In her home studio, she works with her daughter Kara as a student teacher. Early childhood music classes are taught at the Island Savings Community Centre.
